4. Olive Wood Board with a Jar of Herb-Infused Oil

Some gifts are really two gifts in one. Pairing a small olive wood board with a bottle of homemade rosemary or thyme oil turns a simple project into a complete hostess set, and the oil takes almost no effort while the board dries.
Materials: an olive wood board or blank, food-safe finish, a clean glass bottle with a swing-top or cork stopper, good-quality olive oil, fresh rosemary, thyme, or garlic, and a small label.
How to make it: Sand and oil the board as usual, then set it aside to cure. For the oil, gently warm — never boil — olive oil with a few sprigs of washed, thoroughly dried herbs for about ten minutes. Cool completely, strain out the solids, and funnel the oil into a sterilized bottle with a fresh sprig inside for looks. Refrigerate and use within two weeks.
Time and difficulty: under an hour. Beginner.
Customization: Match the herb to the recipient — chili and garlic for someone who cooks boldly, lemon thyme for a lighter palate. Wrap the bottle and board together with twine and a handwritten tag.
Important: Homemade herb oils are perishable and carry a real botulism risk if stored at room temperature. Keep them refrigerated, make small batches, and tell the recipient to use them quickly.
